Radical Tradition: American Quilts and Social Change

Challenging the perception of quilts as merely objects of warmth and comfort, Radical Tradition: American Quilts and Social Change examines how quilts have served as powerful tools for expression, activism, and reform in the United States. The exhibition design draws on the idea of pattern disruption as a visual metaphor for social change, reflecting how quilters have used both craft and composition to question norms and advocate for transformation.

The catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition Radical Tradition: American Quilts and Social Change, exclusively at the Toledo Museum of Art, November 21, 2020–February 14, 2021.
